Riding the Underground Railroad on 2 wheels
When I was a kid, my summers were filled with camp, book clubs, and babysitting. In other words, just hanging out. Spoke N Revolution
, a group of Chapel Hill high-school kids, had their own version of camp – cycling from Alabama to New York.
Spoke ‘N Revolutions Youth Cycling, which is this year’s Golden Spoke winner, (SnR) re-introduces Student-Cyclists to the joy of an active life by having their own bicycle adventure. SnR cyclists are thoughtful, smart high-school students who enjoy physical challenges, but don’t often find themselves on competitive teams, such as football, basketball and soccer. Every year they choose an adventure and this year they decided to combine their love for cycling with a history lesson by cycling the Underground Railroad.
While I could go on and on about how cool this group of students and this organization is, I’ll let them tell you about their month-long journey tracing the many stops on the Underground Railroad.
Happy Reading and Welcome back to the Triangle Spoke N Rev!
